With regular riyaz and a clear study plan, students can prepare well for both the practical and viva-voce sections.

Pracheen Kala Kendra PP1 Exam Syllabus
A well-planned daily routine is the key to success in the Pracheen Kala Kendra PP1 Exam. Divide your practice time between swara sadhana, alankaras, prescribed raags, compositions, taal, and theory definitions.
Try to practise at the same time every day, preferably with a tanpura or tanpura app. Start slowly, listen carefully to your pitch, and avoid rushing through the lessons.
Daily Riyaz for PP1 Exam Preparation
Begin each practice session with 10 to 15 minutes of Sa practice. Hold the base note steadily and match it accurately with the tanpura. This strengthens sur, breath control, and voice stability.
After swara sadhana, practise the prescribed alankaras in both forms:
-
Sargam: Sing the pattern with swara names such as Sa, Re, Ga, and Ma.
-
Aakar: Sing the same pattern using the “Aa” vowel sound.
Aakar practice improves vocal openness, continuity, and control. Repeat each alankar in a comfortable tempo before increasing speed.
Pracheen Kala Kendra PP1 Exam Practical Preparation
The practical portion of the Pracheen Kala Kendra PP1 Exam requires accurate singing, correct raag presentation, and steady taal. Focus on clarity rather than singing loudly or too fast.
Prepare Prescribed Raags
Students should prepare the prescribed beginner raags carefully, including Bilawal, Alhaiya Bilawal, Yaman, and Bhupali. For every raag, learn and revise:
-
Aroha and avaroha
-
Pakad or characteristic phrase
-
Important swaras
-
Prescribed bandish, lakshan geet, and swara-mallika
-
Correct pronunciation of the composition
For example, Raag Yaman uses Teevra Ma, while Raag Bilawal is based on shuddha swaras. Sing each raag with its correct identity and do not mix its phrases with another raag.
Practise Bandish and Swara-Mallika
Learn the words and sargam of every composition thoroughly. Practise the bandish first in slow tempo, then sing it with taal. Pay attention to the sam, as beginning and ending confidently on sam creates a strong impression in the examination.
Viva-Voce Preparation
The viva-voce section tests whether you understand the basic concepts behind your performance. Give short, clear, and accurate answers.
Important Music Definitions
Prepare definitions of:
-
Sangeet
-
Swara
-
Aroha and avaroha
-
Raag
-
Taal
-
Sam, tali, and khali
-
Shuddha and vikrit swaras
-
Achal and chal swaras
-
Swara-mallika and lakshan geet
Remember that Sa and Pa are achal swaras. Re, Ga, Dha, and Ni may become komal, while Ma may become teevra.
Taal Preparation for PP1 Exam
Taal preparation is essential for the Pracheen Kala Kendra PP1 Exam. Students should confidently demonstrate Keharwa Taal of 8 matras and Teentaal of 16 matras.
Show Taal Clearly
Practise reciting taal bols with proper hand gestures. Use claps for tali and a wave for khali. Maintain an even tempo and clearly identify sam.
For Teentaal, practise the theka:
Dha Dhin Dhin Dha | Dha Dhin Dhin Dha | Dha Tin Tin Ta | Ta Dhin Dhin Dha
For Keharwa, practise:
Dha Ge Na Ti | Na Ka Dhi Na
Exam Day Tips
